The first week of summer I stayed in Honduras and watched movies at home. I watched When In Rome, a movie about a woman so devoted to her job she couldn't find love, so when she goes to Rome for her sister's wedding she takes coins out of the love fountain and the owners of those coins fall in love with her. At the same time she meets a man called Nick and they fall in love but she realizes she had taken a poker chip from the fountain and he had the same chips at his house. She gives it back to him to break the spell but it turns out he was really in love with her. It was my favorite movie from this week. (127)
On week 2 my aunt, my mom, my sister and I went on an all girls trip to New York as my 15th birthday gift. We stayed at the Crown Plaza in the middle of Times Square and walked around all of Manhattan. We got to se two Broadway Plays, which were Rock of Ages and Wicked. Wicked was the higlight of the trip for me because I've always loved the Wizard of Oz and this play is about the story of the witches while they're in college and everything that happened before Dorothy came into the story. Next year we want to do this trip again. (107)
week 3
On the 3rd week of vacation, my mom, my sister, my aunt and I met with my uncle at Grand Central Station and took a train to Conneticut to stay with him, my aunt and my cousins. The next day we went to Rhode Isand to spend some time on the beach and watched the game of Ghana vs. US at a restaurant called O'Brien's. We stayed there for 3 nights and 4 days and visited my uncle's family and had a nice dinner and made a fire and talked and sang around it. On the last day, we went over to a Raspberry field and spent all day picking raspberries and eating ice cream, and took home over 100 raspberries. We spent one more day in Conneticut and I had a good time playing with my two small cousins Ryan and Sebastian. (143)
week 4
On the fourth week of summer my dad, my mom, and my brother and sister and I went to Washington DC for the week of the Fourth of July. We went to all the museums of the Smithsonian that were in english. The day before we left we went to see the fireworks at the Washington Memorial. There was a stage set up where there was an orchestra playing and between songs, people from the navy or army would talk about important events in the past. The fireworks were beautiful because music played in the backround and it matched the shapes of the fireworks. (104)
week 5
This week I started a camp called STA (Summer Theater Academy) in University of Miami. The camp lasts 6 weeks but is divided into two parts. The first three weeks are just general theater classes like acting, dancing, film and others and the last three weeks the camp puts on a play. We came in for the last three weeks and started getting ready to do The Jungle Book. We had auditions the second day of camp and were anxious to get the cast list. That day we all escaped from make-up class to find the list and had a great time. The group we're in is small, since we're only twelve people but its fun because we all know eachother. (121)
My family and I went to see toy story in 3D here in Miami. My cousin thought he was a dinosar so i had to chase him through the theater and we had a fun time. After that i talked to my aunt and realized some children can't see in 3D because of a problem in the eyes. Toy Story 3 is about Andy going to college and the toys are donated to a day care and they're treated really badly by the kids there. My family and I had a really great time and they movie is really funny and sad at the same time. (106)
We went to see dispecable me with my family and had an awesome time. The movie is hilarious. Its about a man who wants to shrink the moon to be the best villain in the world, but another guy has what he needs to shrink the moon. He adopts three little girls that sell cookies to go into his house and get the shrinker he needs, but starts loving them as their own daughters and becomes a good guy in the end. He has a lot of minions that are the little yellow ones in the picture, that help him build what he needs, and they are the funniest part of the movie. (113)
week 8
This week was all practice for our play at camp. We worked in UM's Ring Theater every day and got harsh comments from our teachers and had to work hard. in every rehersal. It was hard to put all the dances together and learn to use microphones that would stick to our cheek becase it was easy for them to fall off. We were also given headpieces as our costumes and had to put our own makeup on and that made it harder to get ready. The plays took place July 21st and 22nd and it came out well. Backstage the whole cast was dancing to the songs the smaller children were dancing to onstage before the show actually started. Once on stage, we had a great time. (128)
